BLADES DESIGNING

"BLADES" are one of the primary parts of any rotary device which has got a task to compress the gas in flow. Blades are always tilted at an angle know as "BLADE PITCH".

It is defined as 'the angle between the chord of a propeller or rotor blade and a plane normal to the axis of rotation, its value varying along the span and decreasing from root to tip because of blade twist.'

DESIGN STEPS

Open your catia software and select SURFACE DESIGN from Mechanical Design. Select the point option and mark a point using the XYZ  axis as shown below:

Now select the point and construct a cylinder using the cylinder option (see image below).

After constructing the cylinder here comes the main part, i.e., Points for making blade. Again select the XYZ axis and pplace it on the origin and choose the points accordingly.

Similarly you can choose other points according to your need and the final figure could look like this

Now joint the points using the LINE and SPLINE options. For lines select the top and bottom 2 horizontal points and join them using LINE ICON. The blade curves can be joined using the SPLINE icon, select the 3 points on either sides and join them, the final figure will look like.

After joining the points we can cover the blade using the ILL option and the inal blade will be.

Now select PART DESIGN and draw a LINE through the HORIZONTAL AXIS and return to the SURFACE DESIGN.

Go to tools and select the ROTATE icon and rotate the blade figure at 15 degrees and also choose recap option and you will get this final blade.
